This page should contain info pulled from forum threads around S1 light switches. It is very much a work in progress at present.

Source
These switches are found in Peugeot 205s and 106s with the same cover. However neither car uses them for head/side lights (see cross compatibility for options). The same design switch mechanism also appears to have been uses on the 306 with a different cover design. Apparently they were made by TRW (whoever that may be), but there may be multiple suppliers as there were two cover clip designs.

Removal
Do not be tempted to pull at the switches in the car. This will remove the cover from the switch but not switch body from the car.

Removal procedure

* Take off both* plastic dash trims (one for the light switches and the other surrounds the heater controls) off by squeezing together till you can extract one edge. Be careful though as the upper lip of the insert can scratch at the senotex paint on the top dash panel and reuin it. Use something like a credit card or anything that is thin and plastic to protect the paint). * May be possible without removing heater insert.

* Unscrew the two philips screws that hold the dash top to the aluminium switch plate, followed by the two philips screws that hold the aluminium switch plate to the lower aluminium dash.

* Loosen the STACK, a hinged and ratcheted spanner may help or long extension bars (careful not to scratch the steering wheel cowl). You ONLY need to loosen the stack off sufficient to be able to wiggle off the aluminium dash top off.

* Once you have all that off, the switches can be seen in full, don’t be tempted to just pull on the cap of the switch as all you’ll be doing if you’re luck is pull of the cap leaving the full switch still in position and if not so lucky, you’ll have snapped off the lugs holding the cap on the switch

* To remove a switch disconnect the female plug (the harness is only just long enough to reach the location of each switch).

* From behind squeeze the switch body clips that hold the switch body into the aluminium switch plate and extract.

An alternatively method is to completely remove the steering wheel cowl, stack, plastic trim covers. This takes longer but gives more access and less chance of damaging trim.

Replacement Switches
New (and even used) headlight switches rarely come up for sale. Hazard, fog and heated rear screen are a lot more common as these were the ones used by Peugeot. Fortunately the two common switches can be used as substitutes for the less common variants by swapping the icons (see below).

Sidelight == Headlight == Hazard

Fog == Heated screen

Swapping Icons
Swapping the icon is really easy, they appear just to be clipped in. There are two ways to swap.

The whole black front with icon can be swapped however there are two clip designs.
(need pic of two clips types)

The other way is just swapping the icon. This bit appears to have the same design on both front types. The icon is only clipped in so it is simple to push out (from behind) and then push into the new switch.

Changing the switch tell tail blub
The bulb is an LED. TBC this can be changed from the rear of the assembled switch. In the centre is a torpedo shaped peg. Removal should be a case of pulling on this.

(need pic of rear of switch)

Correct Order
From steering wheel out;

*Side light switch
*Head light switch
*Fog light switch
*Hazard lights switch
*Spare dummy switch

This page should contain info pulled from forum threads around S1 light switches. It is very much a work in progress at present.

Source
These switches are found in Peugeot 205s and 106s with the same cover. However the neither car uses them for head/side lights (see cross compatibility for options).

Correct Order
Source
switches are from 205 / 106, may be 306 (internals the same need to swap whole of cover) ?, but never seen the main light one
they're made by TRW, but I never found a cross ref list anywhere

when you get the switches it is easy to pull off the cap and swap over the icon, be very careful not to snap the lugs off the caps when you pull it apart,

Removal
the first time I took out the light switch housing I took off first both plastic covers surrounding the light switches and the one surrounding the heater controls, then the steering column cowling and and finally the stack itself off

That was the first time, now the only things I do to get out the light switches is:

take off both plastic surrounds (using something like a credit card or anything thats thin and plastic so not to scratch the paint), one for the light switches and the other thats surrounds the heater controls,

then unscrew the two philips screws that hold the dash top to the ali switch plate, followed by the two philips screws that hold the ali switch plate to the ali dash

s26.postimg.org/6iwtadjhl/dash3.png

then by using one of these spanners that are both hinged and have a ratchet

s26.postimg.org/z60ts1und/P1050480-_SMALL.jpg

you ONLY need to loosen the stack off sufficient to be able to wiggle off the ali dash top off, it’s the way I’ve been getting the light switches off ever since my first attempt, but if you feel more comfortable taking off the everything then thats fine too

once you have all that off, the switches can be seen in full, don’t be tempted to just pull on the cap of the switch as all you’ll be doing if you’re luck is pull of the cap leaving the full switch still in position and if not so lucky, you’ll have snapped off the lugs holding the cap on the switch

s26.postimg.org/6fwxt7fhl/switch_1.png

so once you can see the back of the switches prise them apart at the point of the arrow

s26.postimg.org/e9xjelnah/P1180889-_SMALL-.jpg

then from behind you can start to squees the holding lugs on the switch to push it forward and out of the ali holder

it is a lot easer than my writing makes it out to be, the female part are all colour coded (well mine are) and the wiring is just long enough for the right location, so shouldn’t make an error re finding them in the right location

once you have all that off, the switches can be seen in full, don’t be tempted to just pull on the cap of the switch as all you’ll be doing if you’re luck is pull of the cap leaving the full switch still in position and if not so lucky, you’ll have snapped off the lugs holding the cap on the switch

s26.postimg.org/6fwxt7fhl/switch_1.png

so once you can see the back of the switches prise them apart at the point of the arrow

s26.postimg.org/e9xjelnah/P1180889-_SMALL-.jpg

then from behind you can start to squees the holding lugs on the switch to push it forward and out of the ali holder

it is a lot easer than my writing makes it out to be, the female part are all colour coded (well mine are) and the wiring is just long enough for the right location, so shouldn’t make an error re finding them in the right location

Correct Order
There are two bleed screws on the Elise cooling system. One is on the front left side on the hose that exits the radiator. You may be able to reach it from above by shoving your hand down next to the radiator shroud. Otherwise turn the wheel on full right-hand lock and you should find it behind the wheelarch liner. If not remove the road wheel and you'll see it no problem.

The other is in the engine bay on the metal pipe that runs across the top of the gearbox. (8mm)

The best way to bleed the system is to remove the expansion tank cap put the heater on high with the blower fan off and allow the car to idle until it reaches 60C or so. Then increase the revs to around 2000/2500rpm. Once the return pipe is hot in the engine bay (the one with the bleed screw) and the radiator is hot all over the thermostat has opened and you can bleed the system.

Be very careful not to lose the bleed screws or any washers on them. And be very careful of the hot coolant. I find two or three pairs of latex gloves insulate enough to prevent burning.

Handy hint - on an S2, the front bleed screw can be best turned by using a 10p coin in the slot of the screw head. Much easier than trying to turn it by the knurling on the edge and much much easier than getting a screwdriver in there. The S1 was just a thumbscrew. Take care not to over-tighten this screw as well.

Oh and as you're bleeding keep an eye on the coolant level and top it up if it gets low - you don't want to draw even more air into the system!!

Note for LHD cars: the front bleed screw is located on the right side, best accessed through the right wheelarch (At least on mine - LHD S2 K series). It looks like not S2 K series are the same since I have come across that has the front bleed screw on the left. The front bleed screw is on the radiator exit.
Front Bleed screw located on the DRIVERS side you can remove the wheel arch liner (front section) to feel for the bleed screw.
"Had to change my coolant today following a rad and fan change. Didn't have the proper service tool (as if I ever have) to pressure bleed the system so knocked this up out of an old bike inner tube.

Tied a knot in one end and stretched the other end over the open coolant bottle. Then attached a foot pump and pressurised the system. Did the bleeding as per manual - bled rear first then front, and worked a dream."
