S2 Window Adjustment
The S2 windows can need adjusting now and then.

First of all ensure the softtop or hardtop is fitted correctly.

The following pictures and details are for a 2001 Elise - may be different for more recent or US models.

In the picture above the red arrows indicate the adjusters for window tilt towards/away from the roof. They adjust the bottom of the window runners inwards/outwards, thus causing the top of the window to adjust out/in from the roof. These can be adjusted without removing the door card.

If you want to adjust the height of the window at the front/back of the window then the door card must be removed. Undo the fasteners indicated by the green arrows in the above picture. The lower mid and rear sections of the card are held on by velcro, and just pull away after the other fasteners are removed. Replace the window winder, as you'll probably need to move the window up and down whilst adjusting.

In the picture above the blue arrows indicate the adjusters for window height and tilt. Loosen them both a little with an 8mm socket, and move them up and down to adjust height and tilt of the window.

There is apparently an adjuster at the position marked by the orange arrow to move the window forwards/backwards, but I am unable to locate it on my car. Perhaps the upper trim needs to be removed.

Cars with electric windows are a little different. Glass height is determined by the position of an adjustable stop which is accessible behind the plastic membrane at the top of the access aperture.
To adjust the stop, use a 10 mm spanner to release the lock nut. This is best done with the window fully up as the stop will be held tight by the window mechanism.
Once the lock nut is released, wind the window down a little and using fingers, screw the stop in or out as required. Once correctly adjusted, nip up the lock nut.

Your First Track Day!
If you have any advice, tips etc please add them to the wiki just click edit.

Only done a couple of these, so i am sure i am not the most qualified person. However, here are a few thoughts. Tyres and pressures, ensure these are up to the job. The pressures make a massive difference in handling, check when cold. Arrive early, find a nice spot. Ensure your car passes the noise test early, if not then don't worry. i have seen many people with a Coke can with a few holes cut in them cable tied to their exhaust, often filled with wire wool! learn the circuit, build your speed throughout the day. try different gears for the same corner (where possible) to see how the car behaves. Take some food, falsk of tea/coffe, sun tan cream, a few tools just in case and a pump. there is little need to abuse your car on the straights, try short shifting a bit and save your engine, all the fun is to be had in the corners! the thing i have learnt most from track days and the instruction i took was how to brake and turn in, and just how late i could do this. Thus, actually trying to learn something on the day was very useful. Remember that you want to drive home with a smile, not on the back of a lorry.

Brands Hatch
Oulton Park
Snetterton
Cadwell Park
Bedford Autodrome
A great place to do your first trackday for a number of reasons:- there are no gravel traps to get stuck in, almost nothing to hit in the way of barriers and tyres, loads of tarmac/concrete run-off if you go into a corner too fast, very long track (if using the four little circuits combined into one big circuit) so plenty of space to be found on track. The down-side of the long track is that it has a lot of bends and corners, and so takes a long time to learn the layout. Also, it is very flat and featureless, so it's quite difficult to get your bearings until you're familiar with it. Noise levels are quite strict (87db drive by @ 20m), but any factory spec road car should be fine - my slightly tuned TVR Griffith with factory exhaust had no problem, and they're quite loud.

How to remove the dash top from an S2 Elise
The process is described in the S2 Service Manual, section BP pages 19-21. My car (2002 model) was a little different to the manual however so the following guide might be useful.

Remove both front speaker grilles and speakers
Straightforward.

Remove both speaker panels
On the driver's side one you will need to disconnect the hazard warning light switch. The manual says to disconnect everything but it's not needed (and not obvious to me how to disconnect the light switches anyway - didn't want to break anything !) The picture below shows what to disconnect (lower green circle)

clr

Remove plastic capping panel
The manual says to remove the air vents from the panel. Only the topmost rotating bit needs to be removed here. On my car there were 2 screws in each vent attaching the capping panel to the dash fascia panel. These are not mentioned in the manual, and will need to be removed. The capping panel can then be pulled free (with a bit of force !)

Remove the two screws holding the dash fascia to the frame. The drivers side one is shown on the picture above (upper green circle), and the passenger one is found likewise.

clr

Remove steering column upper and lower shrouds
The lower shroud is held on by two screws (on my car anyway - the manual says 3 screws...), as shown below. The manual says to disconnect the trip button but I didn't see a need to - the wire is long enough to let the shroud rest on the floor while you continue working

clr

The upper shroud is held on by four screws as shown below

Remove dash top
The manual says to remove the plastic finished above the climate controls : I did this but not entirely sure it was required. UPDATE: yes, this is required. As well as holding the plastic finish to the dash, it also secures the top of the dash to the metal frame of the front of the dash.

Now remove the dash top by lifting the near most edge of the dash (to release the locating bosses from the keyhole slots in the dash) and pulling it towards you.

Alternative dash removal method without removing plastic capping panel
Instead of removing the plastic capping panel as described above, it is possible to get the entire dash out with the plastic capping panel attached.

Instead of removing the plastic capping panel, just remove the 4 screws that hold the ends of the plastic capping panel to the front of the dashboard. There are 2 screws at each end of the dash, above where the speakers go.

Remove the steering column shrouds, instrument pack and plastic finish above the climate controls (as described above.)

You can then gently bend or bow the plastic capping panel inwards at both ends, whilst moving the whole dash board to the right (drivers side), and slipping the left (passenger side) end out past the windscreen pillar. To avoid risk of scuffing the left pillar a piece of cloth can first be placed over the end of the capping panel where it will rub the pillar, although the windscreen pillar appears to be pretty tough material and hard to scuff.

Re-fitting
Basically the reverse of the above. Only tricky bit is re-assembling the steering column shrouds and instrument pack : loosely assemble the shrouds first before replacing the instrument pack and then tighten everything up.

The image below shows the keyhole slots (bottom green circles) and spigot pin holes (top green circles) that the dash top slots into on refitting.

The lower shroud is held on by two screws (on my car anyway - the manual says 3 screws...), as shown below. The manual says to disconnect the trip button but I didn't see a need to - the wire is long enough to let the shroud rest on the floor while you continue working
